To me, hip hop tells stories of struggle. But what I don't understand is the fact that some people will say that it promotes stealing, violence, and other bad things to your kids. Maybe Im wrong but I thought your kids learned this in their history books. We know what this country was built on: Crime, unfairness, untruth, blood, theft, and the list goes on. But of course someone must be the scapegoat. Sigh.
Also, parents take responsibility. Do your think your kids are dumb enough to hear a rap line and then act upon what they heard? If so you may not be doing a good job.
Why do people blame Hip Hop?div myspace
I will never understand why people blame it on hip hop...yes most of hip hop has to do with struggle, and some people think if their childeren dont know about it then they will never find out...but hip hop and rap or somewhat differnt..rap is more violent and is mostly about sex, but like you said if a parent brings up their childern right what the child learns from the parent will reflect more then the music they hear.
it's like saying dont let your kid hear country music because they might go get drunk and kill them selfs......
it is all very very silly raise your kid the best you can

I think hip hop it's different than everything %26amp; i like it- I think that some people don't like the swearing
they blame hip hop because they dont understand
Well if your heros are talking about doing bad things all the time and saying its a call thing to do. What would you think?
i totally agree with u stop blaming rap and hip hop nd be better parents.
because theres a difference between telling a story and singing about gettin high and shootin up the place... honestly tell me u dont see the problem. i got nothing on hip hop i love it, but its only the truth
People need a scapegoat to explain things, so that they don't have to be held responsible for them. Which is more difficult, instilling good values in your child, or lobbying congress to censor entertainment?
True but parents and guardians even the police can't always bet there, anytime you see major sin you hear the hip hop in the background that goes tripple for rap.
Music doesn't make the person but it does influence the sheep.
i heard an interesting statistic today -
in the 80' hip hop had an average of about 7% of songs
that spoke about illegal drugs.
in the 90's it was about 73%
today it's even more
examples: tupac ( oh yeah he was shot gangland style)
There's a difference between telling a story of violence and glamorizing one. We don't teach kids about World War II because it sounds cool.
Hip-hop is crap and it does promote all sorts of terrible things but it is not to blame for society's problems. I believe that hip-hop lyrics are a reflection of negative things in society rather than negative things in society being a reflection of hip-hop.
People always scapegoat things, remember what people used to say about rock music?
Also, you have a very distorted view of American history.
I think it is more the paren'ts responsibility than anything. If they were truly concerned about the type of music their kids are listening to, they would at least ask about it. Many parents assume their kids arent "like that", but sometimes, that is not always the case.
there is good and bad hip hop. the good ones are like u said that tell stories of struggle, humor, and good things. the bad hip hop are the ones on the radio by the corporate media and mainstream record companies that showcase money, women as sex objects and violence. in any case thats the majority of hip hop, its a thrashy kind of music by the scum of the earth and only losers listen to it.
Hiphop is not the cause of problems but the result:
Hip hop like most mainstream music is sometimes a negative influence. Teenagers are also less impressionable than they are made out to be. I do not think that modern hip hop is a good example of what we want teens to emulate. I would have far less of an issue with it if there was not as much profanity .Why does a story of a struggle have to be coarse can it not be tragic and beautiful? Hip hop is also a easy way to blame "black culture". The content of the music is merely a result of demand. Teens want the music, and here it comes full of obscenities and objectified women. Basically society has a role in the creation of music ,we are consumers it is not fair to blame it on the artists. The artists are merely pawns in the system. I rebel against their goal by refusing to purchase their music or listen to it.
(I see that people dislike the truth. All I get is a thumbs down for my efforts?)
Kids are so impressionable and are followers at a very young age. Anything that appeals to the masses of young kids and teens, your child just might follow. Parents just have to make sure that when their kid strays, have a strong foundation (morals, faith, love, strength, forgiveness, self-confidence, compassion for mankind, appreciation and unselfishness) to come back to. It is the parent鈥檚 responsibility to build the foundation.
BECAUSE IT IS STUIPID ...........................................
"Do your think your kids are dumb enough to hear a rap line and then act upon what they heard"
Yes...it doesn't take a rocket engineer to realize kids emulate what they see and hear on TV and Radio.
Plus, I don't think Little Bobby Smith read about capping hoes and pimping tricks and smoking spliffs in a history book. History as with the present is violent but History books don't glamorize popin caps. and as for hip hop and stories of struggle? Sure...maybe some more underground stuff. But raping about how "Ballin" you are and how many Cars you have...isnt a story its just a big ego.
