Is the "no snitching" creed reinforced in hip hop music?

Do you believe the no snitching code of the hood is reinforced in hip hop? I mention this because this is a topic often touched on in hip hop music. If you were a witness to a crime, do you think you would help the police solve the crime if it meant snitching on someone? Have you or anyone you know been faced with this situation?

I've sort of been faced with it, when an ex broke into my house while I was sleeping and tried to have his way with me.. when I got him out of the house and called my bf, she told me to call the police and report him for sexually assaulting me, but i didnt... but that was my personal decision.. I knew what he did was wrong, but I didnt feel like reporting him and having him put in jail would ever come close to fixing or justifying what he did to me.. but like I said, I was the victim in that situation, so my decision to keep it to myself affected only me.

it's a very controversial topic though, because there are people that sit on both sides of the fence, and the ones who say "I'd never snitch, I ain't no snitch.."but then as soon as it hits home, they tip the police off wiht their names all over paper.

I think it also depends for alot of people, on the type of "crime" that it pertains to.. DRUG RELATED crimes effect people's psych differently than violent crimes, like child molestation or rape..

As far as the hip-hop game, there are people who I believe hold dearly to the code, while others don't (Lil Cease, for example.. or, some people feel 50's "Ghetto Quran" was a way for him to snitch since he named names and sh!t) .. it's the same thing though as it is with every other principle and morals, everyone has there own and some people are true to them while others are frontin'..or when it comes down to it, they fold under pressure...

I lose ALL respect for people who turn over on someone, close to them or not, just to save their own asses though.. that is a no-no. just like it is a no-no to snitch on FAMILY or FRIENDS-- EVER%26gt;%26gt;

(if i see someone touching a baby though, trust, If I cant get to em myself..i'm telling.. YES%26gt;. i said it.. DONT TOUCH THE KIDS%26gt;%26gt; it disgusts me.. )

as far as i can tell, the "no snitchin" thing doesn't apply to regular everyday folk. it only applies to those people involved in a criminal enterprise. ie. if someone witnesses a murder, its ok to help the po po. however, you were involved in the murder, and snitch on your crew to get a lesser sentence for yourself, thats a no-no!

at least that how it was explained to me, and that makes sense. cuz if i live somewhere, and i know there's some shady business going on, and i have kids or something, i'm dropin the dime for sure. my kids are more important than some stupid "hood policy"
this is sort of a touchy topic. I'm very hipocritical when it comes to this. have i ever snitched on anyone, never. would I, I want to say "HELL NO, SNITCHES GET STICHES" (as they say), but in reality i've never been in the situation where me snitching would help save someones life, etc. For example, if a family member or a close friend of mine did something wrong, i.e kill someone, stole, etc. and i knew about it, I would NEVER snitch on them, EVER!

Now, last week my boyfriend and I were walking out the house, and some little dudes across the street were jumping this dude that lives next door to me. When we walked out the house, they stopped. the dude went inside his house, and that was the end of it. It turns out, he had to get his jaw wired shut and he had a concusion (sic). Now, if cops were to get involved in that situation and they needed someone as a witness to say what happened and who did it, I wouldn't. Only because they would know who told the cops, cuz we were the only ones outside at the time. and i feel that would put us in an awkward situation. (ya feel where im coming from).

And like the above answerer said, that diming ppl out so u can get a lesser sentenced, is an absolute NONONONONO! no questions asked.

EDIT: and like Sin said, If the child predators don't get the business from me personally, I'm definetely telling.

ok answer 3 jsut contradicted himself alot to say the no snitching creed means to snitch to stop violence but dint snitch on family is crap . same to say dint snitch on ur hood so what does that mean only snitch if its someone u dint know look it goes like this if snitching means that ur telling on someone so be it if u can save the lives of 12 people by giving info on what do what u must i believe that blessings come form doing the right thing so if u must help to put one criminal away to make a neighborhood better then do that but to say the no snitching creed only applies to strangers is bull

SNITCHES GET STITCHES
The way I see it, it applies to people involved in crime. So, if you're a drug dealer, you don't go snitching on other drug dealers. On the other hand, if you're an innocent mother whose child has just been killed, then it's only natural you want the perp caught. Look at Biggie's mum - she's taken the police to court for how badly they've handled her son's case because at the end of the day, she wasn't involved in anything on the streets, she just wants justice for her son.

As far as personal experience, it depends. I wouldn't snitch on petty crime - if someone stole your car or something where i live, it would probably be sorted out in less legal ways anyway. But if I knew something about a rape or a murder, then I would come forward. I don't think I could live with myself if I didn't.
Yeah..I've been in a situation where me and four of my cousins were pulled over and a gun was found in the truck...everyone was question but I played dumb the entire time...we got off...and I was relieved...it was mine..

It depends. If I saw someone commit a crime against my boo, I wouldn't need to snitch, you can't prosecute a dead man.
No I wouldn't help the police if it meant 'snitching'....Yes I have been in that situation regarding a very serious crime.
