well I'm black so i would wear a comfortable pair of sweats or some loose shorts, and a baby tee would go fittingly. if you are trying to be hip hop, wear a set of nice colors you think match together (pink, Grey and white is nice), with a matching pair of gym shoes. this is only for if you don't want to look like you are trying to hard. hats and headbands and mostly wristbands are unnecessary.

Yes I am tired of people saying that simply because of Nas' song. But, for Hip-Hop heads like myself who have been saying Hip-Hop is dead since around 2000, I'm not gonna stop saying it as long as records from Soulja Boy and 50 Cent are going platinum yet records by Talib are going heavily slept on.

If you did know anything about real Hip-Hop, artists have been saying its dead long before Nas reached the mainstream with the theory. Common released a Hip-Hop classic in 1994 titled I Still Love H.E.R. which criticized the direction in which rappers were taking music, and in 2000 Talib was the first to say that Hip-Hop was dead off his Reflection Eternal album on a song entitled Too Late, which he did because real artists were getting no love on the radio anymore.
Join the crew. Yeah most of us are tired of hearing their pissing and moaning about hip-hop. They're not helping with their damn questions. Haha, ringtone rappers. I never could find an Immortal Technique, JMT, or Zion I ringtone... that just sucks. Anyway. This is what I have to say to them.

Look, I agree that most mainstream hip-hop is down the drain, but you have a choice. Either, find some better artists(yeah, I said said it you lazy a/s/s) or leave hip-hop alone. Quit being a little girl. There's many underground MC's representing the true school hip-hop. Look for them, and you will find them.

I think that as much as I can't stand people reclaiming "hip hop is dead" I can say that I think nas may have done a good thing...He knows it's not dead, he just wanted to raise awareness about the worthlessnes of much of today's music...He has raised (or at least tried to) the consciousness of the common listener...I hope...
KRS-One (The Teacher) said it best. Like it or not, these ringtone, club anthem rap artists of today are just as much hip hop as Jay-Z, BDP or Run DMC. It's not up to the new generation of listeners to reject these new artists and embrace the old but it is up to them to KNOW of those that paved the way. The NaS, Jay-Z, Biggie, Pac, BDP, Juice Crew, Run DMC, Grandmaster Flash, Sugarhill Gang, Public Enemy, YOU HAVE TO KNOW THAT!

That being said I am tired of people proclaiming the "death of hip hop" because artists and labels would rather put out party records. What with the advent of the iPod, the age of singles is back in a huge way and any artist that tells you they got into it strictly for the artistry of it IS LYING.

Thats not to say that I agree when faceless networks like MTV, Vh1 and BET (amongst other, they are the three biggest offenders) pick and choose the parts they like about our culture and market it to outsiders as "real hip-hop". That is the real disservice.
No, any question I've answered about the situation I've repeatedly said that hip-hop is better now than it has ever been. the number of quality releases in the underground every year keeps growing as the mainstream gets confined into one style of rap. That is the reason most people don't hear some future classic CDs, but they are definitely out there. Also, with the mainstream reputation getting so trashed record companies inevitably will have to switch up their criteria and try releasing different styles of hip-hop. Check out Blu %26amp; Exile-Below The Heavens if you say hip-hop is dead. Check out Panacea-The Scenic Route (Huge amount of props to FredMS for notifying me of their new release) if you say hip-hop is dead. Check out Cap D-Return Of The Renegade if you think hip hop is dead. I could go on for years but I am just saying that the only thing that has changed in terms of quality music is where it is found.
i see what you're saying but you have to understand that people are frusterated. i am in my mid-20's and i am a HUGE fan of 90's Hip Hop (particularly west coast) but really anything that's early 90's), so i have researched this genre intensively and i remember a lot of what it was like in the early 90's and i'm telling you today's hip hop is NOTHING like it was back then. all these legends that ppl give credit to for paving the way were mainstream. you probably didn't have to "dig" for it like you do now. Rakim, KRS-1 and EPMD were like regular househould names. i think ppl are offended that they have to look underground for quality music. they want their favorite artists to be as easily accessible like whack-*** 50 cent is. in my personal opinion, YES HIP HOP IS DEAD! and if it's not dead yet it is on it's last leg unless ppl make a change NOW. not next month, not next yr, NOW! so no i'm not tired of ppl saying Hip Hop is dead or complaining about it cause i know what it was like back in the day. it's like night and day. and if no one says anything and speaks up about it, i can guarantee you there are going to be 10x as many lil waynes out there 5 yrs from now thinkin it's cool to talk about bit**** and hos for the next generation. and i understand how it's not fair to judge a whole genre because of a few rotten apples but there are MORE THAN a few rotten apples out there. if it was only lil wayne and boosie than no one would trip. but you got pretty much the whole darn region (South) ***** up Hip Hop! that is sad how a whole region could do this much damage. now i respect talib kweli, common, lupe fiasco etc but we need more of them. naming a few good artists in one hand is not gonna cut it. and i don't think ppl are going to stop complaining until they see results.

Now I don't support all content of hip-hop music but I also don't accept the fact that many of the idiots who complain about it don't know that their kids are in love with this crappy music and they stood back and acted like it was hip-hop's fault for it.

We all have these somewhat muscle cars like the: New Dodge Charger, Dodge Magnum, and all the Pontiacs basically and everyone ruins them with these huge rims. I like hip hop and all but this is too extreme. Muscle cars and American Sedans like Malibu's, Crown Victoria's, Le Sabres, Impalas, Lucernes, and Grand Marquis's should have American Racing wheels, BBS, Eagle alloys, and some others.

Why even bother with DUBS or 20's when you can make it look like a real American stock racing machine. Or at least not lose its value a whole lot. Well I can't say stock, cause who in the hell likes too stock anything on their cars?? The stereo, the paint job, and the wheels; do you agree? I do not like 20's or more on cars; it makes it look... too showy. And just brings the wrong attraction from people. 20's should be the stopping point. 22's should be on trucks, I mean come on. And even then, it still looks like you want to be seen. All clean and s***, no respect for the hood.

I agree and will actually chuckle when I see some of them. It is a way of them trying to be an individual but are now like everyone else. I still cannot figure out where they get the money to spend as much as they do on items such as that and what will they be like financially in 20 or 30 years. Think of what that money would be worth had it been put in a good inverstment. Even at 4 or 5% over a few years it will be a lot more than the value of the wheels in that time. When people I know do something like that my favorite question is "How much faster does it go, or is it more comfortable, or how long before the investment is returned because of better fuel economy?"

In the 90's Hip Hop was still good that was closer to mainstream now I can't listen to anything close to mainstream. Classic beats made with SP1200's had that great feel now since these Timbaland types influence the latest generation I feel Hip Hop has lost its Soul and Jazz roots in favour of some spaced out funk. It was inevitable I guess with the GFunk sounds of the mid90's but today you really have to look for the crate diggin DJs with the old loops and breaks to find what I Love about Hip Hop. It's there but masked by the MTV of Modern Hip Hop. There is no diversity with these new chart tracks. MOstly the Hip Hop I like today still sounds like it has a 90's feel to it. What I do like is Old School Hip Hop maybe not as much as the 90's as I grew up with that but I do like to hear how it paved the way and the fact it was more enjoyable and groundbreaking than todays stuff.

If you feel like that then there is no need for you to even be on this section, or check for new songs or cds anywhere. If you really believe this then you should only buy cds from the 90's era. If you really feel like this then you should not even consider watching MTV, if you feel like this then you must believe hip hop is dead. I think they will all most likey be one hit wonders like sisqo. People like Lupe F., Kanye W., Common, Cassidy, Bow Wow, Trey Songz will all claim there place in history probaly.
Papoose, Playas Circle, I think Glasses Malone has the potential, Chamillionaire...I can't think of anymore right now. Most of the rappers right now either have no skill, are one hit wonders, or will probably not have the limelight for long despite their talent.
Alot of people are naming Common but he's been in the game for a while... He's already considered a legend in my eyes. I think Plies is gonna be around for a while...
As for new cats i'd go with Little Brother, "Blu", and Lupe if they could actually get some play on the radio. ( I know little brother isn't really new, but their just so underrated)
Common dropped his first album in 1992, 16 years ago. How does that qualify as "newer?"

The whole game has changed now. How do you define a legend? Most of the people who are talented enough and can drop enough quality material won't move enough units for most people to consider them legends. And most of the people who can move units aren't talented enough.

A guy like Blu has all the talent and charisma in the world to be a legend, and he's my favorite new emcee. But I don't think most people are going to remember him as a legend, unfortunately.

Papoose should definitely make it big. I would like to see The Game, but who knows? I can't wait for Shyne to get out. I think he has a lot of potential. 50 cent even wanted him! Lots of talent out there, but few I think who could reach Legend status.

Avalon is cool the crowd is kind of young though its 18 to get in. Its probably the most popular, there always celebrities there but they're usually THREE FLOORS up from u. Its usually free before 12 and after 30 to 40 dollars.

The best chill spot is probably JayZs 40/40. Is just a small bar area a little dance area and two VIP rooms which anybody can get in. the dress code is causal but its always crowded because its free to get in.

Also the China club on Mondays is good. Very Grown and sexy.

The Shadow is also a cool club its definitely for the older set though..

I heard goo things about Duvet too.

As far as the dress code goes, I would first find a bullet proof vest.
The meatpacking district/Chelsea has a lot of trendy clubs right now. Most have hip hop rooms or floors. Covers can range anywhere from $5 - 50 and dress code is generally to impress if you want to get into the trendiest spots, along with long lines. Some places are picky about things like sandals/sneakers and non-collared shirts but as long as you're sporting style you should be fine. Also try the lower east side, there are a lot of clubs and bars there that have good scenes that can be more laid back and are somewhat less pretentious than the meatpacking district.
Try Avalon in Chelsea, they have the best and it gets very crowded. It used to called Limelite and it was featured in Sex and the city because it used to be a gay club.
NYC the best are the swingers clubs, very funny, why not? and without dress code jeje, (only not sport shoes)

In Southern Cali it's more laid back. I go 2 LA every now %26amp; then 2 see relatives. Northern Cali is more hyper cause u know we are known 4 gettin' hyphy. But I think Cali is the most laid back state really. We have a lot of crime but we aren't as hyperactive like other cities mostly in the East Coast.

I C U east Coast cats stay up longer than me. I get tired like at 11 %26amp; u guys stay up till' about 3.lol.

As far as the music. West Coast is more laid back than any other region in Hip-hop.

When we say laid back we do much, but just maybe not as hyper iono. In LA its mostly like that. But in the Bay we do crazy ish. Hyphy basically means being ignorant %26amp; psycho without caring about society. U see people doin' donuts %26amp; stuff in the parking lot at my school. Some people are out the window while driving at nite bumpin' hyphy slaps(jams). We have hecka car shows over here 2 mainly in Oakland %26amp; its pretty outrageous.

LA is the more chilled laid back side but still crazy with those gangs they have still. We have Bloods %26amp; Crips %26amp; Latino %26amp; even Samoan gangs over here 2. But its mostly turf wars over here. Just basically where u from.... Certain cities are like rivals.

I agree with the Yay Area, but at the same time I disagree. I think the music is laid back as he said, but as far as the lifestyle the south most definitely the most laid back. My wife's family is from Birmingham, Alabama and what they consider "fast life" is NOTHING compared to LA or the Bay or even Sacramento for that matter. Family values are the most precious thing with them and its grown on me so much that I've become all about my family.
The WC style is much different than east and south. I don’t know bro it’s really hard to put into words, but I know what ppl mean when they say things like “West Coast is all chill, no grillz” hahaha. It’s just the vibe you get when you’re out there. Even though Southern Cali got the gangs etc… but the irony is that if you look at the actual surroundings, you surrounded by beautiful nature. You got the beautiful beaches off the coast, you got the hills and the sierras, you got the sunshine etc.. And when the rappers rap, they come off like they been smoking indo and just don’t give a ***. They straight laid back about theirs. It’s got it’s hardcore stuff but there’s just something chill about it. East coast is like rough, more hardcore and they look more uptight, less relaxed, more in yo face. West coast is in yo face, but it’s more of a low-key subtle thing. They look like they ain sweatin it. I don’t know if any of this is makin sense. It’s just a vibe you get with the WC cats that you don’t get anywhere else. And you can hear it in their music.
I’m from the East but I’ve always been a [bigger] fan of West Coast Hip Hop and style. I agree with the one dude, it’s hard to put into words. The Rappers style, their whole way of rapping, their flow, their delivery is just more chill. They don’t look “too” hardcore or over-embellished as opposed to the East and is definitely not even close to the South. Listen to MC Eiht and some of Ice Cubes’s stuff. laid back and chill, can go across the board for everything except driving. theres alot of jobs out here where u really dont have to dress in a suit to be professional; i guess u can say thats pretty chill. hell, in a profesional building adjacent to mine, most people there wear flipflops to work and drive a beemer. even the nitelife, most people dont normally go to spots before midnight because theyre too busy chillin. mainly i think its chill because people normally wouldnt funk with you on the street, usually too busy thinking about their own world enough to pay any1 else mind. but unfortunately it catches up to us, by way of hurrying and rushing. theres a saying in this town that everyone, common and professional- lag to hurry.its not for everyone, but it seems to work in this city. as far as the gangthang goes a lot of people have outgrown it(thank god). theres crips chillin with bloods now.and its not the colors that start beef, its stupid mofos startin it. dont start none wont be none really. hell some hoods have a different gang every block. a couple years ago it was real bad between blacks and latinos and hopefully they transcend. but really theres crazy asss asian gangs, bike, samoan, tongans, armenians, russians, salavadorians, columbians, and white hooligans all ready to go to war as well, but long-standing business- relationships connect them. in the hoody hoods it used to about turf, now its about money. but with gang crime down, its nice to see theyre on the chill tip as well.
I am from Cali and I have always heard this and have felt the more "laid back vibe" of the WC and have wondered why myself. And I have to agree with some ppl on here it's really hard to put into words. Maybe that's just it- the VIBE is just more laid back. Maybe it does have something to do with the surroundings, the beautiful weather (btw, Cali has the BEST weather in the entire country). But what's weird is that we all know Southern Cali has lots of violence, gangs, corruption in the police dept etc.. but the rappers still manage to come off with a more nonchalant, relaxed, chill-like demeanor. I think it's just the style and mannerism.

I grew up in Inglewood, Long Beach and it a lot like how it's depicted in videos. Very relaxed atmosphere. It's hardcore but at the end of the day, we chill. It's hard to describe you gotta really come out here to see what's up. But I bet you one thing. You come out here you ain gone wanna come back. Westside is off the chain we like in a world of our own out here.

I think the California culture, in general, is just different. California is not perfect, but there are a lot of good things we tend to take for granted out here. For one, the weather is just the best here, the beaches, the valleys, the hills, jobs are plentiful, attitudes are somewhat more liberal, good diversity. I remember seeing Ol Dirty do an interview yrs ago and he made some comment about how he was so poor living in the projects, he couldn't afford a refrigerator and he had to put his milk and eggs on the window pane to keep it cold, because it was so damn cold there. I remember thinking to myself, damn! Because here in Cali it doesn't get that cold. We don't have to worry about having to hustle to work or school in the snow, little things like that probably reflects how relaxed things can be here and it's probably reflected in the mannerism of the rappers. Like a lot of ppl have said it's just really hard to describe it. That's not to say that East Coast rap/lifestyle is NOTchill, it's just a different kind of chill. I guess.

Back in the day if a singer or a producer had to re-work the words in a cut of a song and we couldn't find anyone, we grabbed a pen and paper and we did it ourselves.

the hook goes:

In LA theres a million. Your in the right place if you want to become a better dancer. I recomend Millenium Dance Complex for the LA area. They have some of the dopest choreographers out there.
ur in LA there should be more than enough just look it up
